Most homes in our area have asphalt shingle roofs, and for good reason. They look good, they perform well in Texas weather when installed right, and they give you the most roof for your money. We install and repair shingle roofs every week.
Architectural Shingles: What We Recommend
The shingles we install are architectural shingles, sometimes called dimensional shingles. They are thicker than the old flat three-tab style, they look better, and they hold up better in wind and hail. For most homeowners, they are the sweet spot of cost, looks, and performance.
Class 4 Impact-Rated Shingles
Class 4 shingles are built to take hail hits that would crack standard shingles. Around here they can also earn you a wind and hail discount on your homeowner’s insurance. Ask us about them when you call.
Repair or Replace?
This is the question we get most, and here is how we think about it:
Repair makes sense when the roof is otherwise in good shape and the problem is isolated. A leaking pipe boot, a small section of wind-damaged shingles, flashing that has pulled loose. These are straightforward fixes, and our repair work is covered for 2 years.
Replace makes sense when the roof is near the end of its life or the problems are widespread. Curling shingles, bald spots where granules have worn off, leaks in multiple places, or a roof that has simply seen too many Texas summers. At that point, patching buys you very little.
When we inspect your roof, we will tell you honestly which one you need. We do a lot of repairs. Selling you a roof you do not need is not how we stay in business.
What Affects the Cost
Every roof is different, which is why we do free in-person estimates instead of guessing over the phone. The main factors:
- Size. Bigger roof, more material and labor.
- Pitch. Steep pitch takes longer and requires more safety setup.
- Tear-off. If old layers need to come off first, that adds labor. A multi-layer tear-off takes more time than a single layer.
- Decking replacement. If the wood deck underneath is soft or rotted, replacing it adds material and labor.
- Shingle choice. Different styles and grades cost different amounts.
- Details. Chimneys, skylights, valleys, and flashing work all factor in. Chimney or skylight flashing work in particular takes careful, skilled labor.
You get one clear written price. No surprises halfway through the job. Learn more about what goes into pricing on our roof replacement cost page.
Our Installation Process
- Free inspection and estimate. We walk the roof, take photos, and give you a straight written price.
- Tear-off and deck check. Old roofing comes off and we inspect the deck underneath. If any decking is soft or rotted, we show you before replacing it.
- Underlayment and flashing. Proper underlayment, new flashing where needed, sealed valleys and penetrations. This is the part that separates a good roof from a future leak.
- Shingle installation. Straight lines, proper nailing, correct patterns. No shortcuts.
- Cleanup. We magnet-sweep for nails and leave your yard clean.
Our Warranty
Every shingle roof we install carries our 10-year labor warranty, plus the manufacturer’s 30-year warranty on the materials. Ten years on our workmanship, because we stand behind it and we are local enough to be held to it.
