When Hurricane Beryl tore through Sienna in Missouri City, the phones at R. Cooper Roofing & Siding rang off the hook. One of those calls came from Sam and Martha McGuinness. Sam owns two houses that sit right next door to each other. One belongs to his son, though both are in Sam’s name. After the storm passed, he called us and asked us to come take a look.

What we found
Our crew got up on both roofs and found catastrophic wind damage. This was not a few lifted shingles or a patch job. The roofs were in rough shape before the storm ever hit, worn down by years of sun and weather, and Beryl finished the job. Both roofs were done. Given the state and age of the roofs, we helped Sam and Martha determine whether to file the claim or not, and the claim was filed. That first visit was a free roof inspection, the same one we offer every homeowner in Fort Bend County. We get up on the roof, document everything with photos and video, and give you a straight answer about what you are dealing with. No pressure, no scare tactics. Just the facts about your roof.

The fight
Allstate came back with an offer of only a couple thousand dollars toward a repair. A repair was never going to work. Our team sent Allstate videos showing exactly what shape the shingles were in and why the roofs could not be repaired. Allstate stuck to their guns anyway. So we kept pushing. Lawyers got involved. Sam and Martha waited, and we stayed in their corner the whole time. A year later, Allstate paid for absolutely everything they owed.

The result
Two brand new roof replacements, one on each house.
“We thought the denial was the end of the story. We have come to find that it wasn’t thank you Robert and Vincent for all of the help.”
Sam and Martha McGuinness, Sienna, Missouri City
And here is the part Sam and Martha will tell you about: we upgraded both roofs to 30-year shingles at our own expense. We do not install three-tab shingles, period. If we are putting our name on a roof, it gets done right, even when the difference comes out of our pocket. We are very proud of our warranty and stick behind our work. That is not a slogan on our trucks. It is how we run the business.
Why this story matters
Most roofing companies would have taken Allstate’s repair money, slapped some shingles on, and moved on. The McGuinnesses would have been left with roofs that were still failing, and they would have been paying for it themselves a few years later. That is not how R. Cooper Roofing & Siding works. When we tell you a roof cannot be repaired, we will prove it. When the insurance company says no, we will fight for as long as it takes. And when the job is done, a foreman is on site for every installation, and your new roof comes with a 10-year transferable labor warranty on top of the manufacturer’s 30-year warranty, plus a free annual roof checkup. The waiting was not easy for Sam and Martha. A year is a long time to live under damaged roofs. But they never had to settle for less than they were owed. Sam and Martha McGuinness got two roofs they will not have to think about for decades. That is the whole point.
