Your roof takes a beating in the Gulf Coast, but a little attention goes a long way. You do not need to be a roofer to keep an eye on things. Here are the simple habits that help your roof last longer.
Get an Inspection Once a Year
Have a roofer walk your roof once a year. We look for cracked sealant, lifted shingles, worn flashing, and anything else that could turn into a leak. A yearly inspection catches the small stuff while it is still cheap to fix.
Keep Debris Off the Roof
Leaves and branches pile up in valleys and against chimneys, and they hold water against your shingles. Clear them off when you can, or have us do it during an inspection. Water that cannot drain is water that finds a way in.
Watch for Lifted Shingles
After wind or just over time, shingles can lift, curl, or go missing. You can often spot this from the ground with a pair of binoculars. If you see shingles that do not look right, call us before the next rain.
Keep Gutters Clear
Clogged gutters send water backing up under your shingles. Clean them out a couple of times a year, especially after the leaves fall. While you are at it, look for shingle granules piling up where downspouts drain. A few granules are normal, but a lot of them means your shingles are wearing down.
Call After Major Storms
Hail, high winds, and hurricanes can damage a roof in ways you cannot see from the ground. After a big storm, call us for a free inspection. We will walk the roof, take photos, and show you exactly what we found.
Roof Maintenance Questions
How often should my roof be inspected?
At least once a year, plus after any major storm.
Can I do maintenance myself?
You can clear debris and look for obvious damage from the ground, but leave roof walking to us. Wet or steep roofs are dangerous, and it is easy to miss the early signs of trouble without knowing what to look for.
When should I call a roofer?
Call us if you see lifted or missing shingles, ceiling stains, or granules collecting in your gutters. Those are the early warning signs.
